Timo Boll
For a long time, Timo Boll is considered to be one of the biggest threads of the Chinese team. Head coach Liu Guoliang commented that “as long as Boll is competing, my sleep will never be comfortable”. Anyway, there was a Chinese-German cooperation lately. At the 2015 World Championships in Suzhou Boll played doubles with Ma Long. In the 2nd round they lost to Xu Xin/Zhang Jike who became World Championships in the end. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio he was the first ever German table tennis player to bear the flag of his Olympic team at the opening ceremony.
