Tiago Apolonia
Apolonia managed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics despite having a knee surgery 2 months before. He was part of the team who won the 2014 European Championships in front of their home crowd. Prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho cheered for them personally at the EC final against Germany. Football star and hobby table tennis player Cristiano Ronaldo congratulated the team promptly via Facebook. In 2015, the Portugese team scored the next title, won the first edition of the European Games in Baku. Apolonia started playing table tennis at the age of 5. His philosophy: Do your best every day. Since summer 2016 he is married to German former national team player Zhenqi Barthel-Apolonia.
