Impartials from around the world
Referees and Umpires
The referees job is sometimes not a grateful one. Nevertheless, about 150 referees and officials will come to Dusseldorf to run the WTTC 2017 perfectly – in their leisure time and on their own costs.

From racket tester to umpire

No Umpires, no World Champions

"For World Championships we need approx. 140 umpires and referees. About half of them will come from abroad, from all continents," says Markus Baisch, Head of Referees’ and Umpires’ Department at the German Table Tennis Association. He underlines the importance of the event and what it means for an umpire to be nominated for a WTTC. "Given that taking part in the Olympic Games as an umpire is out of reach for 99.9 percent, World Championships are the utterly career highlight for most referees and umpires ".
